Every month AEBN has it’s xPeep site xPeeps throw a party for one of the companies that has movies on AEBN. Last night, they had an Evil Angel party.

We were especially promoting Slutty & Sluttier, Open Ended, Pretty Sloppy and Evil Anal 8.

The night started off a little shaky. I had been asked by the promoter Porno Dan to be at the venue at 7:30pm to help with a couple of setup things. I got there at 7:40, thinking I was late. Unfortunately, I was there over 10 minutes before the first club employee arrived, and almost half an hour before Porno Dan showed up. When he went to put up the step-and-repeat media wall, it had another company’s logo instead of ours. So I called John and our manager Christian Mann, and they came to the office to pick up one of ours while I finished putting up posters around the club, and handing out Evil Angel shirts for the club staff to wear.

The club was supposed to open by 8:30 and the red carpet at 9. At 9:15, the club still wasn’t ready, but I said we needed to let people in anyway because people had been waiting outside for about 30 minutes already. The DJ hadn’t arrived yet, so there was no music for the first few minutes.

Someone turned on some good music, and the Spiegler girls were there, so things started picking up quickly. Kristina Rose, Evie Delotosso, Dana DeArmond, Bobbi Starr, Aiden Starr, Adrianna Nicole, Chayse Evans, Charlotte Vale, Cecilia Vega and Stevie Hart all held court in the main part of the club.

Shortly after, Lee Bang from ValleyGirlsXXX arrived with Sophie Dee, Luscious Lopez, Regan Reese and some of his other lovely girls. Sophie was especially excited to be able to show off her brand new DD boobs and was having all the other girls feel them.

Thursday, February 12 was the XBIZ awards in Hollywood. There’s a press release here about the awards that Belladonna and Manuel Ferrara won for Best Director (Body of Work) and Best Male Performer.

I went to the awards straight from working late, and John me there after a dinner he went to where an economist was speaking. I saw some of my favorite people, including the gorgeous but camera-shy Acme Anderson, Devan Cypher, Mr. Pete, Jessica Drake, Belladonna and Aiden, and Mr. Marcus. Mark Spiegler was there with several of his girls including Kristina Rose, Adrianna Nicole, Dana DeArmond and Aiden Starr. Adrianna, Dana and Aiden kept John happily distracted the majority of the evening, which I’m happy for since when he doesn’t enjoy himself at an event, it decreases the chances of him attending the next one.

Belladonna and Aiden were up near the front, with Sasha Grey.

Jenna Haze made a point of telling me backstage that she was getting drunk. She also announced on stage that she was getting drunk and fucking that night. I’ve said it before, and I’ll probably say it a whole bunch more times, I love that girl.  :)

I was honored to present a Special Achievement Award with John to VCX’s David Sutton for Preservation of Erotica.

Overall, it was a well done award show, but unfortunately the audience spent too much time talking loudly and not paying attention.

I had skipped dinner before the show, so when my friends from XBIZ said they were going to Kitchen twentyfour for a midnight breakfast, I joined. It was my first time getting a chance to talk to Angelina Armani for any length of time, and I was very impressed with how down-to-earth and level headed she was. She and Alexander Monstar were great company.

A month after winning multiple AVN awards, Evil Angel Director/Performer double threats Belladonna and Manuel Ferrara did it again at the 2009 XBIZ Awards.

The XBIZ ceremony took place February 12 at the trendy and spacious Hollywood spot Boulevard 3. Belladonna graciously accepted the Best Director award, which encompassed her directorial vision for all of her 2008 movies including her vignette movie Discovering Alexis Texas which was also up for the Best Gonzo Movie award. The movie stars Alexis, each scene taking place in a different era, from the 70s through modern day. Belladonna also performs in a scene with Alexis, giving college girl Alexis pointers on blowjobs.

Evil Angel owner John Stagliano praises, “Belladonna has constantly surprised me at how good she is at directing her scenes. She can capture reality, and sexuality as well as I have ever seen.”

Manuel Ferrara received the “Male Performer of the Year” trophy, an honor he has won at multiple award shows including AVN, XRCO and NINFA.

Belladonna was also nominated in the Performer of the Year category, while Manuel and Jonni Darkko were both nominated for Director of the Year. Their distribution company Evil Angel was up for Studio of the Year, which it won in 2008.

Belladonna is one of the best-known porn stars in the world. She is less famous than some other performers to mainstream audiences as she has made few attempts to cross over in her work. “I only became interested in mainstream work this year for the first time,” she says. To non-porn watching audiences she may be best known for crying while being interviewed by Diane Sawyer about the adult industry a few years ago. But her mainstream profile may be raised in 2009 as she says she is doing a  horror film and working on her autobiography.

In the adult world, of course, she has been a top-tier adult star for almost a decade: well known as a performer, director and company owner. Next week she will be in Vegas with an estimated 30,000 other porn professionals and fans for Adult Entertainment Expo at the Venetian and the AVN Awards (considered the adult Oscars) at Mandalay Bay Events Center. In addition to being nominated for a bunch of awards, Belladonna will be co-hosting the awards this year for the first time.

Richard Abowitz: How did hosting AVN Awards this year come about?

Belladonna: I have been interested in hosting for awhile, and I always wondered how they go about choosing the talent for the hosts. I wanted to do it. I thought I would be really good at it. My husband told me to call them up. But I don’t like to do things that way. I want people to call me, because they feel they have the desire to have me there. But I called in 2007 and asked them to please think of me. In 2008 I asked again. And then they asked me to come in for an interview and they told me they wanted me to co-host the show for 2009. It was really exciting. I never do things like that. I don’t go out and find things for myself. I let them come to me, because I feel better about that.

Abowitz: You haven’t shown much interest in mainstream work. Why?

Belladonna: I wasn’t interested in that at all until this year. Mainstream never appealed to me through my career until this year. What happened was I did a couple features. They were adult features, but there was acting involved. I don’t do a lot of acting. So, it was fun and I learned a lot from it. Now, I got cast in a horror movie that is being shot next year. And it is all new to me still and I like to try new things. I get bored really easily and don’t like to ever do the same things over again.

Abowitz: How often have you gone to this convention? And what do you think of it?

Belladonna: I have been there 7 or 8 times. This one stands out because it is a huge awards show that has been going on for years. It is in Las Vegas and that in itself is exciting and everyone comes to AVN. To me it isn’t the same every year. I loved the year Jim Norton was the comedian, about three years ago.

Abowitz: On the subject of AVN awards, I assume you have won some and lost some. Do you care?

Belladonna: It doesn’t hurt me to not win. But I really like to win. There are some awards I want to win more than others.

Abowitz: What award would you most like to win this year?

Bellladonna: Last year I won for best director and that meant a lot to me. This year I am up for a bunch, but again I would love to win best director. I work really hard at my movies. That would mean a lot to me.

Abowitz: How has being a performer helped you as a director?

Belladonna: I think it makes a huge difference to be a performer before you are a director. You know what it is like to be talent. You know what it is like to go in and be asked to do certain things. For me, when I am directing, I make sure the talent I use really wants to do what they are doing. I pay close attention to how comfortable they are doing it. I don’t care what sells. I care that I am watching people having fun doing what they are doing. There are a lot of companies out there that aren’t passionate about what they are shooting. They just shoot what they think sells. I think if people are enjoying themselves, that will sell. I care about the talents’ feelings. I think that matters to having a great product.

Abowitz: Has the recession and piracy impacted your year?

Belladonna: I’ve noticed a dramatic change since January 2008. It has to do with the economy and pirating. Our sales are down. But that just inspires me to find other things to do. I am glad this is happening. To me it is exciting not to be comfortable.

LAS VEGAS - Adult Video News has announced Belladonna and Jenna Haze as hosts of the 2009 AVN Adult Movie Awards on Saturday, Jan. 10 at the Mandalay Bay Events Center.

The 2009 AVN Awards will mark the 26th year for the leading adult industry awards show. Recognizing outstanding achievement in adult movies, the annual AVN Awards have grown to become a major red-carpet media event tied in with the week-long Adult Entertainment Expo and broadcast around the world. With two of the hottest names in the business hosting the show, the upcoming awards promise to be AVN’s biggest and best yet.

“Both Belladonna and Jenna Haze have shown great command on stage at the AVN Awards, as both presenters and award recipients,” said Paul Fishbein, president of AVN Media Network. “I think they will make great, funny, sexy hosts. They look great on television. Plus, they’re both extremely popular and are both in big movies that could very well be up for AVN Awards, including Pirates II.”

AVN Awards producer Gary Miller is excited to have two major adult stars hosting the show together.

“This is something I always wanted to do,” Belladonna said. “When they were getting ready for the 2008 AVN Awards, I had asked about hosting the show, and they said they would keep me in mind.
